Our Founders became aware and experienced the darkest atrocities that could happen to women who were survivors of human trafficking. During the course of their daily interaction with the beneficiaries, they recognized a gap in the recovery process for these women and felt that it was one thing to realize the need for emotional, spiritual and physical healing for women who have experienced sexual exploitation; however it was a tough challenge to address the practical and vocational needs as they move towards their emotional recovery.

Chaiim Foundation (which means LIFE) was birthed to provide viable employment for these women, so they are able to support themselves and their families. Despite the initial bumps and learning curves of starting a business in one of the most challenging environments in the world, our founders were able to play a part in changing the lives of women who now have a hope for their future.

Chaiim Foundation continues to help break the cycle of poverty that fuels human trafficking and sexual exploitation through employment by employing women who have been rescued with a stable line of work. By providing training and jobs we prevent this from happening by employing women who are at risk. Our desire is to give these vulnerable women a choice where they’ve had no choice and make a lasting difference in their lives. Your support not only impacts the lives of these women but also gives them that second chance where your support helps integrate and restore ‘One life at a Time’

Life skills are important because they give the beneficiaries more control to improve their lives. We all want life skills learning to work and have an impact on the behavior and choices made by beneficiaries. A life skill class helps them to be positive and face the carious challenges in the life. Life skill class is conducted every week to see positive changes in girls by giving them and training them to live a life as an over comer.

Efforts made to provide the vocational training are necessary to realize such goals. Vocational training is imparting the necessary skills to find employment and been offered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the victim’s age and in accordance with a comprehensive reintegration assessment.

Skill Training

Chaiim Foundation provides freedom for women from the sex trade, women who were forced into prostitution by trafficking or poverty. These unfortunate survivors didn’t choose their profession; someone else chose it for them. Chaiim Foundation now offers these survivors a real choice. When they choose to work at Chaiim, they can start new lives, regain dignity in their communities, and begin a journey towards restoration and wholeness. Our projects provide direct services to survivors and those at-risk to human trafficking. In the long run though, we deploy sustainable and effective solutions to actively curb the growth of slavery and sex trafficking.

After rescue, their problems continue as they are confronted with difficulties, practically, socially and emotionally, hence the rehabilitation process needs to take into account many complex problems.

Testimonial

As children, we all of have dreams about what we will be when we grow up, dreams of whom we will be someday. For the lucky few of us, we have parents who love us and teachers who mold us, helping us take hold of that dream. Not so with Rinku – her stepfather molested her every night and her mother would verbally and physically abuse Rinku, unaware that her own husband was tormenting her 12 year old daughter. Unable to do anything else, Rinku left home hoping to build her dream in the city of Mumbai – the city in which dreams can be built. Roaming the streets of Mumbai at night in search for food and shelter, Rinku was more than happy to accept work propositions by various men. She finally thought her dream was beginning to materialize into reality. Little did she know that she was about to plunged into her worst night-mare.

Within a matter of days, she learned what it was like to be trapped, to be imprisoned in an abandoned building, to be raped over and over and over again, not for one day, not for one week but for two entire months. She learned what it was like to escape from that hell only to be sucked into another one of rape and physical thrashing followed by more rape and more pounding. She learned the difference between prostitution for money and prostitution for survival – survival sex, barter sex, call it what you want to. She learned to control the terror she felt when most men approached her – the trembling, the wild beating of her heart and the eventual resignation to the fact that there was nothing beyond this. She learned where you can get almost anything – food, clothing, a place to sleep – for a price. She lived ina world we hear only whispers about – the world where you have no friends because tomorrow she can be raped to death or die from a drug overdose or beaten up within an inch of her life. All this before the tender age of 16.
Just about when Rinku had given up on hope, she was sent to live with her aunt to study Islam for two years. For the first time in her life, Rinku experienced what it was like to be loved. In her innocence, Rinku then returned home, hoping for change, hoping for love, only for her hopes to be dashed to the ground by parents who still didn’t love her, who still abused her and who continued to ruin her. Eventually the police referred her name to Chaiim Foundation. As a last resort, she opted to come to Chaiim Foundation as she knew the founders when they used to visit her while she was at various NGOs. She has been with Chaiim Foundation for the last 2 and ½ years. In a nutshell, At the Chaiim enterprise she successfully completed her internship at the Chaiim enterprise and proved herself time after time again to be a person of good judgment, making helpful choices and knowing the packaging of a product well. She has completed her secondary education and is planning on enrolling for University this year. Savings have always been encouraged and she has a good amount saved in her bank account. Finally, her wounds had started to heal. She got rid of her shame, her past and learned what it’s like to begin a new life. Sherecently got engaged to her steady boyfriend of 2 years and her mom has been the happiest since. We encouraged her to gradually reveal her past when she just met him and she developed the courage to share her life with him. Her step father was upset at her getting engaged threatening her with consequences of telling her boyfriend about her past. However she was not fearful – she told us that the truth always triumphs and she is not scared anymore. Rinku now knows what it’s like to be living the dream – a dream where it is possible to forgive despite being abused, hurt and betrayed, a dream where it is possible get rid of shame, vulnerability and no self value, a dream where it is possible to trust, to love and to be loved. At Chaiim, I now have a place called HOME.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility The Parliament approved new Companies Bill, which mandates that companies of a certain size spend 2% of their three - year average annual profit towards corporate social responsibility (CSR), is a landmark one as it makes India among the first nations to have social welfare spending as part of company statute by law.

Around 8,000 companies would fall under the Bill's ambit and this mandate would translate into an estimated CSR spending of Rs. 12,000 - 15,000 crore annually. In order to maximise the impact of their CSR, Indian corporate houses need to look beyond the traditional lens of "charity" and develop succinct CSR strategies with potential for large - scale social and economic impact.

Private philanthropies set up by India's business leaders can be looked at as models for CSR. The first step towards developing a CSR strategy is to define a maximum of 2 - 3 social issues. Making the most of corporate social responsibility: Smart partnering can provide a practical way forward. CSR is a creative opportunity to fundamentally strengthen business while contributing to society at the same time.

The big challenge for companies and NGOs is how to develop an approach that can truly deliver for both. Smart partnering is emerging as a way to create value for both the business and society simultaneously. Smart partnering focuses on key areas of impact between business and society and develops creative solutions that draw on the complementary capabilities of both to address major challenges that affect each partner.
